Gearing up for the Olympics with your kids
The 2012 Summer Olympics will be held at the end of July and beginning of August, and excitement is already starting to build.
Kids around the world will be transfixed by the games, watching their countries' athletes compete. Some Olympic athletes are practically kids themselves, with teenagers well represented in sports like gymnastics.
One way to engage with your kids this summer is to start talking about the Olympics now, and make plans to both watch and play durng the weeks when the games are happening.
Talk to your kids about their favorite sports, and which ones they're most excited to watch. Do they want to see swimming, diving, or track and field? How about basketball or soccer?
Make plans for them to play their favorites, and maybe some day you will find yourself with an Olympic athlete in the family!
Bonus for this Olympics: Aaron Cook, a 20-year old Tae Kwon Do champion who will be representing the UK in the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, was inspired to start practicing martial arts when he was a kid by watching the Power Rangers!
